Black Lives Matter: Now is Not the Time to Remain Silent.

I have been trying to find the words these past couple of days but nothing seems to be good enough. Nothing will capture the emotions, the pain, the suffering that the Black Community has faced with little retribution for the horrible crimes committed against them. Nothing will capture the embarrassment the community feels for those who do not understand, for those who will not stand up and fight for our brothers and sisters, our fellow Americans.

I am not going to sugar coat it. I am not going to rant or lay claim to experiences I know little about. I am not going to pretend I understand or ever can, but instead I am going to stand with you. I am going to fight for a future where police brutality against black Americans is nothing more than a powerful history lesson children learn in school. I am going to stand proudly beside those who look forward to this future and fight with you.

I am going to be a part of the voice that’s heard from coast to coast, as cities around the world stand together in protest. I am going to listen, I am going to hear and say the words once wept behind closed doors that now echoing in the streets, unable to be ignored any longer. I am going to take a stand, and urge others to do the same for a better future for all.

Black Lives Matter.

Here’s how you can help.

Listen and Educate Yourself on how to be an Ally. It takes more than a statement of “I’m not racist” to invoke change. Be a voice for the people, and learn about George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor and the other black Americans killed using unnecessary fatal force.

Make a donation to Black Lives Matter or similar organizations to help end state-sanctioned violence and liberate black people, ending white supremacy forever.

Join a protest or sign a petition. Stand together in peace and solidarity at local protests, or sign petitions that will bring justice and change to end police brutality against black Americans.

Don’t be afraid to use your voice. We live in an era where global communication is at our fingertips. Use that tool, and use your voice to stand against social injustice. Show solidarity, hear and share the message, and promote change.

Share the good and keep listening. Many moving, beautiful moments have come out of these protests like these. Share the message and don’t look away even when it’s hard, but look for opportunities to promote peace and reduce hate when doing so.

This is our fight.
